Forest Lake Dojo Begins Work on its updated Shomen

The FL Dojo Karateka have been working hard to complete the updated Shomen in time for this July’s IKL tournament. The previous Shomen had to be moved when the facilities were remodeled. The new Shomen looks great! Our special thanks go out to American Reprographics Corporation (ARC) for creating the large club logo, Kanji and motto text!

Great job karateka!

Region 5 IKL training day at Forest Lake Dojo

On Saturday Dec 5th, the Forest Lake dojo held the Q4 IKL region training session. These are always great events for receiving training from different instructors and for some of the older karateka to gain practice training younger students.

The Training Must Go On!

On Monday November 23rd Svenkeson Sensei had to part the Twin Cities for work purposes. As Monday is a Forest Lake Dojo training day, Sempai Mike Applegate covered for Sensei and ran the Karate practice in his absence. It was a fun filled class including kata, choke hold releases and knife defenses. Well done Mike!

Region 5 Training Session

Today the Forest Lake dojo hosted the quarterly region 5 training session.   We were especially honored this time by the presence of Takumi Sensei who arrived in Minnesota earlier this week from his home in Maui.  It is always a treat to for us to see Takumi Sensei who founded the IKL presence in Minnesota over 50 years ago.   Moe Sensei, region 5 director, also joined us today as did Boyum Sensei, Cromley Sensei, Svenkeson Sensei and a number of additional region 5 Yudansha including Dave Zimmerman, Maria Svenkeson, Mike Applegate, Tim Cote, and Evan Svenkeson.  The  availability of talented, experienced Yudansha always renders these training sessions an excellent venue for lower ranking karateka to receive focused training and to benefit from the experience of accomplished martial artists, whom they may not normally have access to.   Special thanks to all the region 5 Yudansha for volunteering your time to teach and inspire!
